cocktail time!

I stumbled upon this show once. It made me so angry, it defies reason. "Hey you guys! Isn't cooking out of a box HARD? Its okay! I'm here to help you! We'll get through this together!" But this, oh this…almost makes up for it.

apparently this is now the "videos I like" blog

I was taken to see The Phantom Menace by my highschool boyfriend, who was VERY excited about it. So excited in fact, that he was one of those kids who slept in line to see the midnight showing the night it opened. He LOVED it. LOVED. If there were something more powerful than caps lock, I would have used it just then. I, on the other hand, was interested, but skeptical...
I fell asleep. My boyfriend was not amused.
That movie was atrocious. I've thought that since it was released, and have been largely backed up by everyone on the planet, but never until now has anyone so full realized the inherent and complete catastrophe that that movie was.

Watch all of it. You will not be sorry.

The decade according to nine year olds

The decade according to 9-year-olds from allison louie-garcia on Vimeo.

The idea of what this decade was like in the eyes of a nine year old, who has never experienced anything but what has happened since 2000, is really interesting, I mean, just think about their views on computers. These kids have never lived in a world without computers, or the internet. Wow. However, I feel like a lot of their answers have no bearing on a reflection of the decade so much as a reflection on the fact that these children are nine. They're nine. Of course they have odd answers for what the biggest news story in their lifetime was, they're NINE.
Still pretty interesting though...so watch it.

let me hit you with some history.

In celebration of the greatest athletic achievement by a man on a psychedelic journey, No Mas and artist James Blagden proudly present the animated tale of Dock Ellis’ legendary LSD no-hitter. In the past few years weve heard all too much about performance enhancing drugs from greenies to tetrahydrogestrinone, and not enough about performance inhibiting drugs. If our evaluation of the records of athletes like Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, Marion Jones, and Barry Bonds needs to be revised downwards with an asterisk, we submit that that Dock Ellis record deserves a giant exclamation point. Of the 263 no-hitters ever thrown in the Big Leagues, we can only guess how many were aided by steroids, but we can say without question that only one was ever thrown on acid.

This is easily THE most dead on impression I have ever seen. Watch these, than watch the actual show. Agog, I promise you. Agog.

monday fun.

The cat videos will never get old, and I'm not ashamed.

No embed code for this one, but lets just say its worth clicking on.

Paleo-Future is a site about false predictions made in the past about the future. You know, like jet packs and cities underwater by the year 2000. However, there were some pretty accurate predictions made by motorola about the "portaphone."

Do yourself a favor, and go see Inglorious Basterds. I did this weekend, and it was effing incredible.

I don't even know what to say about this...

Its interesting, and horrifying, and its only in two parts. Perfect not-doing-any-work-at-work Monday distraction

here's a tip...

don't see The Time Traveler's Wife, read the book, because its outstanding, and then watch this clip (to satisfy your morbid curiosity about the filmed version of the book/your Rachel McAdams obsession.)

these bugs are obviously drunk.

Video composed of long exposure shots of bugs buzzing around a streetlight, by Charlie McCarthy. I think its pretty great how many bugs seem to fly in curly q's.

Nostalgia

I woke up very late this morning, and consequently showed up to work looking extremely harried and sweaty with my poofhair poorly hidden under a hat that didn't match my clothes. But when I got here and started flipping through channels (yeah, I watch a lot of tv at work, and its rotrotrotting my brain) and found Little Women on.

This movie came out when I was twelve years old, which was the perfect age for me to get obsessed with it. I'm not even sure what made me love it so much, its got great characters, but quite frankly it doesn't really mesh with the other stuff I was into when I was twelve (Christopher Pike & R.L.Stine.) I guess it just a classic; so transcendent it doesn't even matter that its a slow moving story about four little girls growing up.

Anyways, cross your fingers that I get through Wednesday without screwing anything else up too badly. A baby's life hangs in the balance.

dottie had a heart condition, and she died...

Could you imagine if these were kind of PSAs we were seeing about swine flu now? I'm not sure if I would be more afraid or less...

The 70s were just bonkers.
